Mum’s card expired… 

She couldn’t pay at the shop, and her friends couldn’t transfer any money to her. Turns out, her card had expired, and we didn’t even notice! The numbers on the card were worn out ages ago, and we only saw the date through the app. So, we only found out about the expiry date on the actual day it expired.

The average user can’t keep everything in their head or set calendar reminders for card renewals.

So how does the British digital bank Monzo solve this problem?

1. Email reminders three months before the card expires and ask you to confirm your delivery address. 
2. In-app notification. 
3. Deliver a new card before the old one expires.
